If you're a highly skilled player, it might be beneficial to research multiple techs at once, but personally I don't really have any use of it. These are best to build later on, when you have already established a powerful economy.įrom what I can see, refineries are special in that their effects stack towards the total base production, so these should be built everywhere for most benefit.Ībout the library, I'm not sure. Granaries, Lumber Mills and Smelters give percentage based bonuses, so you need a sizable income of that resource in a city to notice their effects. You should build one in your capital and research Taxation as quickly as possible though.

Temples can offer major defensive bonuses to a city, so they might be good to have in your border cities if dealing with an agressive enemy, but other than that they don't seem overly important. Markets are not required for caravans, but each one generates a base income of 10 gold per second, so its a good idea to build them quickly. This will cost a lot of gold though, so it will be an ongoing process.

Universities are very important because they produce knowledge, so building those in every city and stuffing them full of scholars should be high on the priorities list. If someone more experienced sees any flaws here, please weigh in. I haven't played this for years, but the following is my understanding.
